Job Description

Location: Washington D.C.

While acting in a lead capacity, the Congressional Liaison-Senior provides US Air Force customer with comprehensive strategic and tactical support for all internal and external outreach efforts with senior DoD leaders on legislative strategy and tactics to promote AF Space initiatives to Congress and other Government agencies.

 

Responsibilities included, but are not limited to:

  • Advise senior DoD leaders on legislative strategy and tactics to promote AF Space and its mission to Congress.
  • Provides support on legislative and executive branch initiatives, Congressional correspondence, congressional hearings, Senate confirmations, Congressional briefings, and internal communications.
  • Track legislation and other Congressional activities affecting the US AF Space programs. 
  • Performs analysis of ongoing space activities, legislative initiatives, and plans to ensure Congressional notifications/contacts and engagements are adequately and properly addressed.
  • Prepare detailed briefings for senior DoD leaders to present to Congress and orchestrate all meetings on a specific topic. 
  • Produce written responses to inquiries from Members of Congress, Committees, and GAO.
  • Facilitate contacts, meetings, and other engagements between members of the Program, and Congressional staff contacts. 
  • Participates at Headquarters Air Force level working groups on a periodic basis and as required.
  • Provide writing and editing support to include research, drafting, and editing positions papers. 
  • Provide research and other support on thought leadership pieces (e.g. journal articles, op-eds, white papers) for the program. 
  • Develop timely and high-quality reports, data analysis, briefings, and other materials targeted at congressional audiences; 

Support customers and peers on the project by promoting awareness of important events, meetings, milestones related to the congressional scheduled, as well as general engagements with Hill staff, committees, and leadership. 

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, International Relations, Engineering or related discipline. Relevant work experience and training may be considered in lieu of a degree, like Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) Crediting Combinations of Education and Experience standard.

8-10 Years demonstrated/practical hands-on experience in working with Pentagon and exceptional understanding and familiarity with Capitol Hill, and demonstrated experience interacting with senior military officers and Government civilian and political leaders. Needs to have a minimum of 5 years working within US Space Policy and current US Space Program status. Familiarity with US Space and AF Space mission, organization, and operations. Must demonstrate exemplary writing skills with an ability to convey complex topics in a clear, direct and engaging style.

Employee must possess and maintain a Top-Secret/SCI security clearance and must be willing to consent to a CI Polygraph. Each employee must have the required final security clearance at work performance start date.
